The 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron is set to open a food truck park for Team McConnell in April 2023.

The food truck park is replacing the Burger King that used to stand by the Base Exchange and across the street from the credit union. It will provide members of McConnell with different options for meals. The new lot will have a covered seating under a pavilion and turf, and electric vehicle charging stations.

“The demolition of the Burger King in April of 2022 was the true kick-off of the project,” said Maj. Paul Weskalnies, 22nd CES operations flight commander. “The construction project started last June with the award of the contract to widen the drive through lane, build curbs, sidewalks and install artificial turf. The project is currently all but complete. There are just a few minor details such as closing out the contract and tidying up a few bits and pieces around the area.”

Members of the 22nd CES have been working the project for the past year securing funding of $112,000 and are almost ready to unveil the new food truck park to the base. The power production team installed solar panels on top of the pavilion putting in 191 hours’ worth of work with $6,000 in materials.

“The Power Production Team is extremely proud to have contributed to the eventual overall success of the food truck park,” said Mr. Gage Goble, 22nd CES power systems support mechanic.

Along with the food truck park, the team has also been working and coordinating other projects around the base. These include a training area dedicated to Agile Combat Employment training and an 18-hole disc golf course near Dorm 350 and Family Camp. The squadron is also looking at replacing the playground by the base pool and building a dorm activity center that will also serve as a storm and tornado shelter for residents.
