CDC, McConnell medics offer flu-prevention tips
MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --
Center for Disease Control and Prevention and McConnell Medical Clinic officials recommend people follow the tips below to prevent flu infection.
- Keep sick people away from others as much as possible. Have them wear a face mask if feasible.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water or sanitize them with an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Cover coughs and sneezes.
- Keep surfaces such as doorknobs and toys clean by wiping them down with a household disinfectant.
- Keep people other than caregivers out of a sick person's room.
- Pregnant women and people with health conditions affecting their immune systems should avoid caring for those who are sick.
- Try to stay at least six feet from people who have flu symptoms.
- Wash all linens, eating utensils and dishes possibly exposed to the flu virus with hot water and soap.
- Over-the-counter cold and flu medications may help lessen flu symptoms, but children and teenagers should not take aspirin. Check ingredient labels before administering medications.
