22nd MXS Airman earns spotlight performer

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- As a spotlight performer, individuals are chosen by leadership for demonstrating the Air Force's Core Values: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.

Airman 1st Class Raul Macias, 22nd Maintenance Squadron aircraft structural maintenance technician, was selected as the 22nd Air Refueling Wing spotlight performer for the week of March 17 through 21.

Macias is responsible for maintaining the aircraft assigned to McConnell Air Force Base by ensuring they are structurally sound through preventative and corrective maintenance measures.

The McAllen, Texas native enjoys playing music, sports and reading.

Macias enlisted in September 2012 and has been assigned to McConnell since June 2013.

"Macias is the hardest working and most respectful Airmen I have had the privilege of supervising," said Tech. Sgt. Brian Ball, 22nd Maintenance Squadron aircraft structural maintenance technician. "He has the 'first person in, last person out' mentality and is one of my most trusted workers. He's the type of person who gets things done before he is asked, and I never have to question his integrity."

Who is the most positive influence in your life and why?
My parents have had a very positive influence in my life because they have always set a high bar for me. Many of those standards are similar to those of military life.

If you could give advice to a new Airman, what would it be and why?
Enjoy your time off and have fun, but make sure you are responsible. Find someone to look up to and be your mentor so that you can repay the favor once in a supervisory position.

What is one goal that you have already accomplished, or would like to accomplish, during your Air Force career?
One goal I have is to become a member of base honor guard. I would like to be able to look back at my military career, no matter how long the duration, and say I was involved in Honor Guard. It reflects an image of what I want to become.

Where is the most interesting place you have traveled and why do you feel that way?
The most interesting place I've traveled was to Mexico because it was an excellent opportunity to understand my family heritage and roots.

If you had the opportunity to meet anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I would like to meet Elon Musk because of his wealth of knowledge and dedication to better the world. For example, he owns Space X, which is trying to push the boundaries in commercial space exploration.
