'Lights out'
The 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron is adjusting the use of streetlights beginning the week of Feb. 17. Ninety percent of lights will be shut off from 1 to 6 a.m., and every other streetlight will be turned off during hours of darkness to save energy. The estimated savings is approximately $12,000. May Blood Drive
Members of Team McConnell took the time to donate blood to the local Red Cross chapter May 9, 2013, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. The drive, which was open to all base personnel, collected blood and plasma not only for local blood banks but also for deployed military members. Girls run to break the ‘box’
A new nationwide program to help develop, maintain, foster confidence of young girls kicks off at McConnell AFB Feb. 26, 2013, at the youth center. Girls on the Run a is youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum centered around running to help inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The final campaign poster for the Alcohol Social Norms Intervention Project states seven out of 10 McConnell Airmen, 71 percent, leave parties or bars with little or no alcohol impairment (blood alcohol concentrations below .05percent.)
