The squadron is responsible for all the real property and equipment installed on McConnell. It supports base structures, utilities, pavements and grounds, mechanical systems, environmental compliance, fire protection, disaster preparedness and explosive ordnance disposal.

The 22nd Contracting Squadron provides local purchase contracting support for the wing. Contracts for supplies, equipment, services and construction are awarded to commercial firms to satisfy customer requirements. The squadron ensures contracts comply with public laws and regulations, and provides acquisition advice, assistance and information to McConnell unit commanders. The squadron's small business office promotes federally mandated programs for small and/or disadvantaged businesses participation in government contracts.

The squadron processes requisitions, sorts and delivers supplies and equipment for the base community. It ensures supplies, equipment and petroleum oils and lubricants are available. It also provides all-around transportation support. The unit receives, documents and ships Department of Defense-sponsored material and personal property, as well as arranging for and obtaining official travel for all military members and their families.

The squadron provides all fixed and cellular telephones, fixed and mobile radio services, navigational aids and weather systems maintenance. Additionally, they maintain the base communications center and several key computer systems, as well as hundreds of base small computers.

The squadron serves as Team McConnell's host for recreation, social and personal development for active duty military, retired military, Reserves, federal employees, and their dependents.

The squadron provides force protection for Team McConnell personnel, assets and buildings. It functions like a city police department complete with criminal investigations, law enforcement, military working dogs, and even a small jail.
