MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – The Alpha Warrior Tour presented by USAA is scheduled to arrive at McConnell May 26-27.

The Alpha Warrior Tour is visiting several Air Force installations across the country to challenge participants with events that bring a different approach to fitness.

On May 26 from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m., there will be a group fitness session at the base fitness center led by two celebrities from the American Ninja Warrior TV show.

After the workout, there will be three opportunities to meet the celebrities. Meet-and-greets are scheduled for:

Fitness Center from 10-11:00 a.m.
Base Exchange from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Youth Center from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The following day features the adult and youth obstacle courses. Both courses will be in the Robert J. Dole Community Center. The adult rig will be in the ballroom and the youth rig in the Signatures Lounge.

The adult rig has 10 different sections of obstacles, which will test the competitor’s ability to climb, lift and maneuver themselves.

Before the competition, competitors and those who want to participate but not compete, can practice on the rig from 8-9:00 a.m. The celebrities will be there to demonstrate and assist in the familiarization of the course.

Immediately following, the competition will kick-off. Up to 60 competitors will be given two chances to conquer the course. The top three female and male challengers will be presented awards. There will also be a regional competition, hosted at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, this fall. The top 25 female and male competitors from Air Force led bases during the base and regional competitions will compete in San Antonio, Texas, November 17.

To wrap-up the event, the youth course will be available to children from ages 6-12 from 12:15-1:15 p.m. and ages 13-18 from 1:15-2:15 p.m.

“The purpose is to focus and have another way to strengthen on the four pillars of fitness,” said Senior Master Sgt. Jessica Cambron, 22nd Force Support Squadron sustainment services flight superintendent, about the Alpha Warrior Tour. “And of course when people make it through they feel that sense of accomplishment.”

The tour will leave for other Air Force installations, but the fitness center will implement aspects of the course to appeal to some members and encourage fitness. One of the racquetball courts will be renovated into an area for a smaller rig similar to the rig used in competitions.

“The permanent station here will provide a method to strengthen individuals and build team cohesion,” said Cambron. “I think it is awesome. I don’t think McConnell has had this type of event from the fitness center in a while. It highlights the fitness center capabilities and our squadron.”

Those who wish to compete can register at the event if there are available slots, or at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080f49a8ae22aaff2-alpha.
