As a spotlight performer, individuals are chosen by leadership for demonstrating the Air Force's Core Values: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.

Senior Airman Brian Deal, 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron construction manager, received the spotlight performer for the week of Feb. 15 - 19.

As a construction manager, Deal inspects contractor performance, ensures project feasibility and compliance with specifications, requirements and Air Force Instruction.

"Impressive is a one word description for Deal," said Chief Master Sgt. Jeremy Huggins, 22nd CES chief enlisted manager. "He is the type of Airman who I am excited to see become an NCO. He was performing at the level of an excellent staff sergeant long ago. He leads with confidence and maturity."

Deal, a Sylvania, Georgia native, joined the Air Force in June 2012 and arrived at McConnell in December 2012. His hobbies include soccer, do-it-yourself projects and reading.

Who is the most positive influence in your life and why?
My mother has been my biggest influence. She is always trying to look out for others and has always supported me in everything I've done.

If you could give advice to a new Airman, what would it be and why?
If I had to give advice to an Airman, it would be to be eager to learn. You will be learning new things throughout your Air Force career and being motivated to learn will only help you succeed.

What is one goal that you have already accomplished, or would like to accomplish, during your Air Force career?
When I was in technical school, an instructor told me that he expected me to make staff sergeant first time. I made that my goal and achieved it.

Where is the most interesting place you have traveled and why do you feel that way?
I spent two weeks in Italy before I joined the military. We traveled all over, but Florence was my favorite city. There is so much culture and history there it was hard to leave.

If you had the opportunity to meet anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I would have to travel back in time a little bit, but I would like to meet my great-grandfather. He was in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Alaska. I found a bunch of pictures and letters of his in my grandfather's things and would be really interested in knowing more about his life.
