McConnell Air Force Base welcomed eight new honorary commanders to units on base during an assumption of command ceremony Nov. 30, 2016.

The honorary commander program spreads awareness of McConnell’s mission and build connections between the base and the community.

"For our military members, the program provides a ringside seat to watch movers and shakers in the business community demonstrate leadership and management expertise," said Col. Albert Miller, 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "The program also allows civilian counterparts to learn about the amazing work done by the Airmen here at Team McConnell. The honorary commanders in turn take what they see here to their communities and educate their neighbors on the missions of the 22nd and 931st ARWs and the 184th Intelligence Wing."

Many of the honorary commanders have professional backgrounds similar to the mission-sets of the units they are matched with.

The receiving units and the honorary commanders are:
• 184th Intelligence Wing, Jamie Taulbee
• 22nd Operations Group, Bruce Porter
• 22nd Medical Group, Lisa Cushing
• 22nd Logistics Readiness Squadron, Juston White
• 22nd Operations Support Squadron, Kathy Bond
• 22nd Medical Operations Squadron, Judy Johnston
• 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron, Stan Koster
• 22nd Air Refueling Wing vice commander, Barbara Callaway
