Members of the 22nd Medical Group competed in a Beast Mode Challenge May 10, during their training day.

More than 100 Airmen and civilians competed in six events that included push-ups, sprints and box jumps. The winner was determined by the highest amount of repetitions performed over all the events.

“Our competition was all about inspiring others to participate in physical fitness,” said Airman 1st Class Misty Richmond, 22nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron public health technician. “I thought the competition would be a different way to promote fitness, and I think it went well.”

Events during the competition were specifically chosen to balance between major muscle groups.

“I wanted to choose events that would work different muscles,” Richmond said. “These exercises also made it easy for counters to count repetitions.”

The challenge gave Airmen a way to enjoy themselves while participating in physical fitness activities.

“I come from the fitness realm, so I’m always looking for ways to incorporate fitness into morale events,” said Capt. Teressa Petosky, 22nd Medical Operations Squadron physical therapy flight commander. “I think most people enjoyed being here, which is great because it can be difficult to get people engaged in physical training.”

At the end of the event, the 22nd MDOS team was recognized as the winner. They’ll look to defend their victory next year, as Richmond says this may turn into an annual event.

“This was the first year we’ve done anything like this,” Richmond said. “I’ve learned a lot that’ll get us ready for next year, like how to stage events and having extra volunteers to help with organization. I’m really looking forward to doing this again.”
