An Airman assigned the 22nd Logistics Readiness Squadron competed on the Air Force Volleyball team that won the Armed Forces Championship, May 29.

Capt. Justin Lukso, 22nd LRS deployment and distribution flight commander, was one of 12 Airmen selected to the team.

Lukso helped the team place 9th out of 58 teams in the A division, made up of volleyball teams from across the country.

“The team was made up of a great group of guys,” Lukso said. “We meshed really well on and off the court and our interactions while we were trying out really tied into how we did on the court.”

Lukso said the team’s result took a combination of teamwork and flexibility. The team didn’t spend a lot of time together before the tournament.

“After the tryouts there were six officers and six enlisted members that made up the team,” he said. “There were people from all kinds of Air Force Specialty Codes and locations. Interacting with everyone really was helpful since you never know when you’d need to reach out to someone.”

The tournament also provided Lukso contacts in other branches of the military.

“I have friends now in different specialties and locations so if I ever need any help I now have plenty of people to get into contact with,” he said. “So participating in things like this is very beneficial if I have any questions about how something works in another service.”

Airmen can continue their sports careers in a variety of sports at a competitive level.

I encourage every member to continue their love for competitive level sports through the Air Force,” said Bill Hageman, 22nd Force Support Squadron fitness center manager. “The Air Force offers an opportunity to compete against the other military branches and potentially international competition.”
