MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – Members of the 22nd Security Forces Squadron will host multiple events May 14 through 18 in recognition of National Police Week.

“Our main focus is to show our appreciation for our law enforcement both [local and military],” said Staff Sgt. Jessica Poteet, 22nd Security Forces Police Week coordinator. “Also, to honor those that we have lost during overseas or stateside missions.”

Opening remarks will be held on May 14 at 8 a.m. at the Auburn Hills Golf Course, Wichita, before the 22nd SFS Golf Tournament begins. Registration is open until May 11.

On May 16, a 5K ruck march will be held at 6:45 a.m. at the Krueger Outdoor Track. This event is open to military personnel and civilians with base access.

“We will be honoring two defenders and four office of special investigation agents during this ruck march,” said Staff Sgt. Kaylynn Hughes, 22nd SFS ruck march coordinator. “It will be the individuals who passed in 2015 during the Bagram-Afghanistan motorcycle suicide bomber incident. As well as two security forces members who passed in Jalalabad, Afghanistan when a C-130 [crashed].”

A Final Guardmount ceremony will be held on May 17 at 4p.m. outside of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing headquarters building. The base-wide event will be held in honor of fallen security forces and OSI brethren.

A ceremony will be held at 12 p.m. on May 18 at the City Council Chambers downtown memorial, in honor of National Police Week. Members of the 22nd SFS will stand in formation during the event with local law enforcement.

“[It’s important] to honor the people who have died in the line of duty, both in the military and local law enforcement,” said Poteet.
