McConnell gate improvements Published May 31, 2018 By 22nd ARW Public Affairs 22nd Air Refueling Wing MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- McConnell Air Force Base will begin the installation of new final-denial barriers at the main gate beginning on June 2, 2018.The security improvements will start with the installation entry point off of Rock Road, and the project will last approximately three weeks, weather permitting, before improvements are made on the west gate. The 22nd Security Forces Squadron is working closely with the 22nd Civil Engineering Squadron and local contractors to ensure the absolute lowest impact to community members travelling north and south on Rock Road, but delays can be expected. The base populace has been urged to maximize their use of the west gate during the construction period, especially during peak hours, to minimize the impact of traffic backups. Early morning commuters, those who arrive prior to 6 a.m., should expect normal traffic and minimal impact at the main gate. For any questions, please contact the 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs office at (316-759-3141 or 22.pa@us.af.mil.
