PRESS RELEASE: McConnell Force Protection Exercise Published Dec. 4, 2018 By 22nd ARW staff report 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – -- The 22nd Air Refueling Wing will initiate a Force Protection Condition (FPCON) exercise Tuesday continuing through Friday in coordination with Total Force partners at the 931st ARW and 184th Intelligence Wing at McConnell AFB. The FPCON exercise is designed to prepare Airmen and security personnel to respond to internal or external threats to the base. “Our defenders train relentlessly to respond to advanced threat situations,” said Lt. Col. John Farmer, 22nd Security Force Squadron commander. “It is our primary duty to protect innocent lives by acting swiftly and focusing our efforts on finding and neutralizing any possible threat.” This exercise will test lockdown and crisis response procedures for McConnell’s Total Force Airmen, which can include responding to insider threats, terrorism activities and active shooters. “Our Airmen must be prepared to respond to any personally threating situation,” said Dan Haman, 931st ARW Exercise Program manager. “Being able to support yourself during any threat before security personnel can arrive on scene is critical.” The surrounding community can expect to hear abnormal alarms, sirens and increased security operations throughout the week. Base personnel should expect delays in normal services across the base during the exercise. McConnell AFB is an operational military installation, and fluctuations in daily procedures and operations are not a cause for concern.
