McConnell welcomes new command chief Published April 29, 2019 By Airman 1st Class Alexi Myrick 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- This week the 22nd Air Refueling Wing completed its immersion with Chief Master Sgt. Melissa H. Royster. Airmen had the opportunity to meet her in the first step of her transition as McConnell’s newest command chief.Royster will be assuming her new duties as the base’s newest command chief.“Chief Royster is an incredible addition to Team McConnell and our families,” said Col. Josh Olson, 22nd ARW commander. “Her experience makes her the perfect choice to represent the wing as our senior enlisted leader.”As command chief, Royster is the principal advisor to the commander and senior staff on matters of health, welfare and morale, professional development and the effective utilization of McConnell’s Total Force enlisted personnel.“It is an honor to serve the 22nd Air Refueling Wing Airmen and families,” said Royster, who has held a variety of leadership positions serving at the squadron, group, wing and major command levels. “It is my pleasure to serve our Airmen across the installation and help guide them to the readiness and success that I know we can achieve.”Royster entered the Air Force in 1996 and has more than 23 years of experience. She has served in leadership roles for more than 11 years. She previously served as the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron superintendent and as Air Mobility Command Materiel Management functional manager. Prior to her selection as the 22nd ARW command chief, she served as the 18th Wing interim command chief, Kadena Air Base, Japan.“My main goal is to support Col. Olson’s strategic vision and the three component message of culture, character and communication through innovation and excellence,” said Royster. “It’s a tremendous honor to serve with and mentor the Airmen who will be shaping the future of our Air Force.”
