Team McConnell to join Riverfest parade

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  All members of Team McConnell are invited to walk in the Sundown Parade May 31, 2013.

This annual event is the kick-off to the Wichita, Kan., Riverfest celebration. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine.

McConnell AFB will be represented by various emergency response vehicles and the Hearts Apart float, all led by the base honor guard.

To join the parade, participants should go to the intersection of Main and Murdock Streets. McConnell's designated space in the parade is Spot 48 and all participants should be in place no later than 5:45 p.m.

The parade route begins on Main street, headed south, at the intersection of Central Avenue, and ends on Waco Avenue at 3rd Street.

Family members are welcome to walk in the parade with service members. Strollers and wagons are permitted. Dress is uniform of the day.

Other events that McConnell personnel are invited to attend include the Riverfest Military Salute and the Riverfest Michael Martin Murphy concert.

The military salute and concert are scheduled for June 4, 6:30 to 6:45 p.m., and 8:30 to 9:45 p.m., respectively. A member of McConnell's leadership will deliver a short speech at each event.

The military salute will take place at Veterans Memorial Park, 339 N. Greenway. The country music concert, free admission with military ID, will be at Kennedy Plaza, 225 W. Douglas Avenue.
