Approximately 75 parents and children participated in the 2013 Armed Forces Day Kids' Run in base housing May 18, 2013, which was sponsored by the base youth center.

The run is an annual Department of Defense event within each branch of the military. More than 120,000 military children have participated since 1986.

"It's a good event, and a great way to spend Saturday morning," said Maj. Robert Liu, 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron operations flight commander.

The length of the course was broken down by age groups, with the oldest group having the longest distance.

Each child received a t-shirt for their participation.

"The participants enjoy doing the run because it's all for fun and not about competition," said Benjamin Gaines, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Youth Center teen coordinator. "Kids look forward to doing the run again every year."
