National Library Week, typically observed during the second full week of April, is scheduled to be observed at McConnell April 22 to 26, 2013 so participants can experience what the library have to offer for the community.

The base library staff decided to celebrate with events that have been organized for each day of the week.

"All of the events are going to be great in their own special way," said Darla Cooper, 22nd Force Support Squadron library director.

The following events offer visitors of all ages an opportunity to see different aspects of the library's programs:
· April 22 - The library kicks the celebration off with an open house, offering complimentary lunch and new electronic reader demonstrations.
· April 23 - There will be an interactive Snow White Story Time from 10 to 11 a.m. in the education center room 154.
· April 24 - A free career management presentation will be conducted by a local university offering complimentary lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Signatures Lounge.
· April 25 - Wichita's Music Theater for Young People will conduct a special theater presentation at 7 p.m. in the Robert J. Dole Center Ballroom.
· April 26 - The celebration wraps up with tree planting at the library reading pavilion 10:30 a.m.

Besides books, the library also offers free internet access, DVD's, music CDs, online databases, CLEP and DANTES study materials, video games, magazines, newspapers, children's materials and weekly story time.

"A lot of people think that libraries just offer books," said Cooper, "really, there's a whole lot more. I would hope they would find our library useful and a place they want to come back to and use more."

One repeat visitor shared what she is looking forward to during National Library Week here.

"We are always excited for story time," said Kathrin Hunter, mother of three. "[My children] are really looking forward to seeing Snow White. They haven't seen the movie, but they have been to Disneyland."
