Refueling Airmen's Spirits Published Aug. 3, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Maurice A. Hodges 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. - -- As part of Comprehensive Airman Fitness, Airmen are asked to be fit mentally, physically, socially and spiritually to complete the four pillars of fitness. The McConnell Chapel fosters CAF by providing the constitutionally guaranteed right of freedom of religion for all Airmen to receive the spiritual care they need to meet their mission at the 22nd Air Refueling Wing. "Airmen should be spiritually fit because it helps our Air Force by contributing to the member and their family," Chaplain (Maj.) David Depinho, 22nd Air Refueling Wing base chaplain. The chapel provides programs catering for the base population. This includes quarterly marriage retreats for couples to help strengthen their commitment to each other. Another program under the chapel is the Airman Ministry Center, also known as the Den, a place for Airmen to socialize while participating in different programs daily after work hours. The Den is located in Dormitory 350 on the first floor. The Chapel also hosts weekly at noon Tuesday "lunch and learn," where a spiritual message is shared after food is served. "The biggest benefit of having a diverse line up of programs is to meet the various needs of the community," said Tech. Sgt. James Smith, 22nd ARW chapel assistant. "An annual survey is held throughout the wing to collect data and analyze and convert it into programming." Airmen and their family have more opportunities for spiritual growth through religious observances and services that include: · Religious Education for pre-k through high school · Protestant gospel and contemporary service · Catholic Mass and Reconciliation · Counseling services For more information about McConnell's Chapel call (316) 759-3566 or visit the official base chapel page at www.mcconnell.af.mil/basechapel.asp.
