Outdoor Recreation Department held its open house to showcase the variety of equipment and services available to Team McConnell.

Approximately 400 people attended May 9, 2012 to eat lunch and check out some of the 2,400 items available for rent.

Inventory includes recreational equipment such as canoes, paintball equipment, pontoon and radio-controlled boats, all-terrain-vehicles, bounce houses, an outdoor movie screen with sound system, and lawn care equipment.

Equipment is available for daily, weekend or weekly rental.

In addition to rental equipment, Outdoor Recreation also hosts events and tours.

Events can include shopping in Kansas City, Kan., NASCAR races and area casinos.

Another event option for customers is the "outdoor recreation on demand," program. McConnell clients are able to create a program to be planned and facilitated entirely by the department. Some required steps include meeting the minimum required number or participants and collecting money.

The products and trip planning services are not only available to Team McConnell and their families, but also to veterans, retirees and military identification card holders.

Rick Grenier, ORD assistant manager, is one of the people who help set up events.

"Getting the Airmen into fishing and hunting is a lot healthier than sitting in the dorms playing video games," said Grenier. "A lot of Airmen come out scratching and clawing, but once they get out here, they have a good time."
