With about 40,000 items in its inventory including DVDs, books, CDs and audio books, the McConnell Library is pulling out all the stops for National Library Week.

National Library Week highlights the role a library plays in a community, McConnell is holding activities from April 9 to 14, 2012.

While the library has held several activities this week, such as the learn Spanish in one hour lesson, the cultures and beliefs of Islam program, and Mother Goose preschool story time, several more are available.

April 12, a vote for the William Allen White book award is scheduled for 7 p.m., lessons for using e-readers is scheduled for April 13 at 1 p.m., and the family festival of fun will be held April 14.

The library will give prizes at these events including new e-readers, an mp3 player, books and gift cards.

"National library week helps draw attention to the libraries and what we can provide to each person," said Darla Cooper, 22nd Force Support Squadron library director. "There is something here that really benefits everybody."

While National Library Week only lasts a week, the library holds literacy campaigns throughout the year. For more information, call (316) 759-4207 or visit www.mcconnellafblibrary.com.
