The 22nd Force Support Squadron is hosting bike week March 19 to 23, 2012, in the hallways of the Robert J. Dole Community Center.

This is the fourth year bike week has been held on base.

"March usually starts the season of good weather and people that have motorcycles start getting them out of the garage," said Fe Vorderlandwehr, 22nd Force Support Squadron community center director. "Those that don't, but are thinking about getting a motorcycle, have a chance to see a few on base."

On display are Harley Davidson motorcycles from Alef's Harley Davidson, a local dealer.

"I love going to car shows and bike shows," said Staff Sgt. Ricky Loredo, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Command Post controller. "Harley is an American icon."

Previously stationed at Hickam Air Force, Hawaii, Loredo enjoyed riding year-round, something that can prove difficult in Kansas because of seasonal weather extremes.

In addition to weather hazards, it is imperative riders maintain situational awareness, and "proper personal protective equipment and training is a must," said Tech. Sgt. Wayne Herold, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Safety ground safety technician.

Successfully completing a motorcycle safety course is a requirement for all Airmen.
