News Brief: Drug-use results in jail, BDC for Airman

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  A McConnell Airman was sentenced to four months confinement and received a bad conduct discharge at a court-martial here Jan. 11, 2012.

Airman Basic Matthew D. Skrede, 22nd Communications Squadron, was tried by special court-martial and pled guilty to one charge and specification of wrongful use of marijuana on multiple occasions.

"Skrede chose to break the rules," said Capt. Jimmy Gutzman, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Staff Judge Advocate trial counsel. "He knew about random urinalysis tests, but decided to get high anyway. There's no place in the Air Force for drug users. This type of misconduct will land you in jail and lead to a well-deserved punitive discharge."

Skrede will have a federal conviction on his record for the rest of his life. He will serve his sentence at McConnell.
