Even with the robust list of medications available at the McConnell AFB Pharmacy, these medications are mainly used for chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol.

These medications are kept in stock and can be dispensed within minutes of processing new, renewal or refill prescriptions. However, there are non-stocked medications that can be ordered through the Wright-Patterson High Dollar Drug Program.

The medications available through WPHDDP are used to treat conditions such as immunodeficiency diseases, transplants or other rare conditions.

Prescriptions for these items, or other WPHDDP medications, can be brought into the pharmacy like any other new prescription. James Speanburg, local program coordinator, will request medications from the WPHDDP.

Refills called into the telephone refill system will require at least one extra duty day to be filled. As a reminder, prescriptions can be called in five days before your medications will run out.

Due to the cost of medications, a one-month supply will be dispensed at a time. As always, patients with other health insurance can still receive their medications, including those from the WPHDDP, from the base pharmacy, at no charge.

If your insurance company is registered with TRICARE, the MTF will bill your insurance company with no cost to you. Please be advised, you may receive a statement of charges from your insurance company as an explanation of benefits.

So far this fiscal year, the base pharmacy, in conjunction with the WPHDDP, have helped 43 patients with 340 prescriptions valued at $209,291.08.

If you have any questions on this program or the pharmacy in general, please call 316-759-5277 during duty hours and a pharmacy staff member will be happy to assist you.
