Commander takes reins

The 89th Regional Readiness Command held a change of command ceremony in Wichita, Aug. 17.

General Rita M. Broadway transferred command of the 89th RRC to Maj. Gen. James W. Rafferty during a ceremony at the 1st Lt. Lanny J. Wallace Army Reserve Center.

General Broadway had served in various staff roles off and on with the 89th RRC since September 1979. She became deputy commanding general of the 89th RRC in August 2002. On March 2005, she became commanding general of the 89th RRC. General Broadway will be inducted as the new deputy commander for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Va.

General. Rafferty came to the 89th RRC from the 81st Regional Readiness Command, Ala. where he had served as commanding general since August, 2006. He's also served as deputy commanding general for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command located in Rock Island, Ill. General Rafferty has distinguished himself by earning the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster; the Meritorious Service medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters; and the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
