Americans enjoy barbecuing, but it could be dangerous, even deadly, if you are not careful.

Here are some helpful tips from Staff Sgt. William Holmes, 22nd Air Refueling Wing, to keep your grilling experience a safe one:

Before operating a grill, read the owners manual. The owners manual has specific information for set up and operating procedures.

Grills are for outside use only. They need to be operated in well-ventilated areas and on level ground away from buildings.

Protect your body by wearing a heavy apron and an oven mitt that fits high on you forearm. Also use long handled utensils.

Grills remain hot long after use. Also if using charcoal grills soak charcoals in water before trashing left over charcoal.

Summer fun would not be complete with out having a barbecue, but not being safe when barbecuing could end in an unhappy summer.
