384th wins Spaatz Trophy Published April 19, 2007 By 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs staff MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Each year, the Air Mobility Command selects and recognizes the most outstanding air refueling squadron within the command and presents that squadron with an AMC Spaatz Trophy. The award is named after Gen. Carl A. Spaatz, who was the first chief of staff of the Air Force. The 384th Air Refueling Squadron was recently named the 2006 Spaatz Trophy winner. AMC selected the 384th as the most exceptional air refueling squadron out of all the KC-10 and KC-135 squadrons in the command. Command representatives choose the best squadron after evaluating each squadron's ability to accomplish its mission. The reps evaluate the quality of each squadron's training programs, safety records, retention rates, outstanding individual and crew accomplishments, education program enrollments and community involvement. The winning squadron also earns a small plaque honoring the unit, which is placed on a large Spaatz Trophy maintained at AMC headquarters at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
