22nd ARW Airman earns spotlight performer

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  As a spotlight performer, individuals are chosen by leadership for demonstrating one or more of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander's intents: Foster a culture of excellence ... Develop the next generation of leaders ... Set and achieve goals.

Staff Sgt. Kimberly Franklin, 22nd ARW Judge Advocate general law NCO in charge, was chosen as the spotlight performer for the week of Feb. 4 to 8, 2013. She has been at McConnell for two and half years.

The Stamford, Conn., native has been in the Air Force for more than nine years and enjoys shopping, bowling and going to the movies.

As the general law NCOIC, Franklin is responsible with assisting in individual and unit legal reviews, processing claims and providing various legal briefings to new arrivals on base, Airmen about to deploy and retirees.

Franklin has been training two paralegals on their 5-level core tasks in addition to working on her own upgrade training and was selected to serve as recorder for an Air Force ground accident investigation board involving a fatality.

"While the fatality is tragic, it shows how much confidence Staff Sgt. Franklin's command has in her to tackle the toughest challenges with professionalism and integrity," said Lt. Col. John Smith, 22nd ARW/JA staff judge advocate.

Who is the most positive influence in your life and why?
The most positive influence in my life is my husband. He is always motivated and determined to be a better person whether on or off duty. His belief and faith in my potential are what pushes me to succeed as a mother, wife and an Airman.

If you could give advice to a new Airman, what would it be and why?
My advice to a new Airman would be to never allow an isolated incident or negative moment to ruin your career; instead, take it as lesson, learn from it and move forward.

What is one goal that you have already accomplished, or would like to accomplish, during your Air Force career?
My goal for my Air Force career would have to be to earn a bachelor's degree, maybe even my masters, in public health and if I stay on active duty to retire as a chief.

Where is the most interesting place you have traveled and why do you feel that way?
The most interesting place I've ever been is Japan. I enjoy the culture, the people and scenery.
