Staff Sgt. Philip Simon has served in the Air Force for 13 years. He has been stationed at McConnell for two years. When he is not at work he enjoys restoring his home, volunteering in the local community and bird watching.

What do you enjoy most about McConnell? McConnell gives back to the local communities which provide each of us a place to call home.

Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? In exchange for working hard, it has provided me the opportunity to earn my bachelor's and master's degrees, and now I'm continuing on to a Doctorate of philosophy in education.

What would you like to accomplish during your Air Force Career? I would like to complete my degree in education.

Who is the most positive influence in your life and why? My friend, Sister Madeleine Kinser, is the most positive influence. She devotes her entire life to serving causes greater than herself. This is something I am striving to learn to live by.

What would you be most proud to tell your parents? As Abraham Lincoln said, "We have to plant our feet in the right place, and then, stand firm." I have planted my feet well and will always stand firm for what is right.

What would you like to tell someone who is considering joining the Air Force? Join, work hard, and take advantage of the educational benefits. Education is the one thing that cannot be taken from you.
