Many Team McConnell members attended the annual awards banquet at the Robert J. Dole Community Center Ballroom Feb.6. However, many might not know the significance of this ceremony at least to two Air Force members.

This ceremony was the first time retired Chief Master Sgt. John Pritchett, former 22nd Mission Support Group superintendent now working in a civilian capacity with the 22nd Security Forces Squadron, served as master of ceremonies after his retirement.

The other master of ceremonies, Airman 1st Class William Pritchett, 22nd Civil Engineer Squadron fire department, is also the son of retired Sergeant Pritchett. This ceremony was the first ceremony held where both father and son Pritchett was master of ceremonies together.

"It was the passing of the torch in the truest sense," said Chief Master Sgt. James Morman, 22nd Air Refueling Wing interim command chief. "Chief Pritchett's father was also in the Air Force, so the torch has been passed to the third generation. I can only imagine how proud Chief Pritchett must have felt."

"It felt terrific," said retired Sergeant Pritchett. "It gave us a chance to be together one last time in a formal setting."

It was a great honor," said Airman Pritchett. "Colonel Vechery says it like passing down the baton and I really think it was like that."

Airman Pritchett, after having spent two and a half years in the military, has decided to follow in his father's footsteps and make a career in the Air Force.
