To offer better service to the base the McConnell Postal Service Center and Official Mail Center opened its doors to its new facility in Bldg. 524, here, Jan. 25.

The new building comes with new security and fire systems to increase safety and more space to ensure the staff members can operate at full capacity.

"I have more space to handle and deliver mail and the write ups of the packages during holidays, for those moving to a new base and deploying," said Judith Krones, Postal Service Center project manager. "Also deliveries can come to the garage and the ramps, being able to get through less doors and can be stopped before entering the garage area to be checked for safety reasons before coming into the office."

The move was necessary because the previous building, in which the post offices were located for 10 years, was deteriorating.

"The old building had a lot of mold and had termites," said Tech. Sgt. Kristy Jackson-Sessions, 22nd Communication Squadron Official Mail Center NCO in charge.

The PSC handles the mail for the Airmen living in the dorms and the OMC handles official documents such as medical files being shipped from base to base. Day-to-day tasks are now easier to perform with a few new features of the building.

"We have a new dock and ramp that allows the U.S. Postal Service truck to pull up and bring in large loads of mail," said Jackson-Session. "We have a mailing area that we didn't have before we can load mail in and come directly into the work area which will decongest things."

The operating hours for Monday-Friday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For details, call the OMC at 316-759-1735.
