Wingman Day around the corner Published Oct. 5, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Tara Fadenrecht 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Events focusing on building resiliency among members of Team McConnell are scheduled to take place Oct. 9, in recognition of Wingman Day. "I believe McConnell is like any other base in the Department of Defense, whereas we have struggles and areas that we can improve upon," said Senior Master Sgt. David Smith, 22nd Force Support Squadron career assistance advisor. "To tackle these topics it takes time and effort, but we are a part of an organization where our leadership believes strongly enough to shut down operations in order to take the needed time and effort to discuss how we can make the necessary improvements." Unit physical training will begin the day from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Later, (Ret.) Brig. Gen. Rhonda Cornum, former Gulf War prisoner of war, will share her resiliency story with Airmen from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the base theater. Team McConnell members will also have the opportunity to participate in small group discussions from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. Discussion topics will include diversity, respect and suicide prevention. "Wingman Day is a time for our entire team to focus on our mental, social, physical and spiritual aspects of life," said Ronald Draper, 22nd Air Refueling Wing community support coordinator. "It's about taking care of ourselves and others around us and renewing our commitment to one another as wingmen."
