With a four day weekend approaching many families will be out celebrating Labor Day.

It's a chance to relax, recharge and spend quality time with friends and family. This weekend all of Team McConnell should stay safe while out enjoying the sun and here are some tips to do so.

If Airmen plan on getting in the water this weekend remember to take the follow precautions: supervise children or inexperienced swimmers, do not mix alcohol and swimming and wear a lifejacket while boating said Mr. Steve Hagler, 22nd Air Refueling Wing occupation safety technician.

"Make sure your campfires are properly contained, setup and put out,"
said Hagler "When you are barbecuing and grilling; utilize the grill in an appropriate manner and not near the house because it could catch on fire."

If you plan on drinking, it is always best to have a plan. Having a designated driver or using the Airmen Against Drunk Driving service are great ways to be safe and responsible, said Hagler. The AADD number is (316) 759-2233.

If Airmen plan on traveling this Labor Day make sure to do so safely, according to the Air Force Security Center. Always wear a seatbelt, check that the vehicle is in good running condition and don't drive tired or intoxicated.

Use the wingman concept. If anyone from Team McConnell sees someone being careless or engaging in unsafe activities, step in and help them out.

Remember to stay hydrated and be cautious of changing weather conditions.

"The safety office is available for any mishaps that do occur or any injuries that need to be reported," said Hagler. "Where hospitalization may be involved contact command post or the office duty safety phone." The safety office number is (316) 759-3075.

By practicing risk management and the wingman concept Team McConnell can promote safety and prevent accidents.
