With $2.1 million in renovations recently completed, services in the Base Chapel are scheduled to begin July 26.

The renovations brought the chapel into the modern age with a slew of technological and standard-of-living improvements made in both the workshop and worship areas.

"We revamped the entire building from the top to bottom," said Staff Sgt. Byron Edwards, 22nd Air Refueling Wing Chapel program support NCO in charge. "Two 90-inch TVs, wireless microphones and hearing devices, audio and video systems, ventilation system, ceiling tiles and carpet were installed during the renovation."

Many of the additions were made to aid patrons who need additional help while attending services.

"We have a new capability for those who are hard of hearing," said Chaplain (Capt.) Shannon Workman, 22nd ARW senior protestant chaplain. "We have a wireless system they can wear or hook up to their hearing aid, so even if you are sitting in the back they can hear the music or sermon."

In addition to the new technology, the chapel was reinforced and strengthened to provide Team McConnell with shelter in the case of a tornado.

The chapel's mission is to help strengthen service members both spiritually and emotionally.

"I can't wait to use the facility to effectively take care of the Airmen," said Edwards. "Because that is what we do, we care for the Airmen, so that they accomplish the mission."
