Bringing the beach to McConnell Published July 16, 2015 By Senior Airman Colby L. Hardin 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 22nd Force Support Squadron will host a base-wide beach party for Airmen and their families on July 31. The beach party is an annual event that is held at the pool pavilion. Approximately 800 people come out each year to enjoy all of the activities provided by the 22nd FSS. "We are trying to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere," said 1st Lt. Johnathan Stines, 22nd Force Support Squadron community services flight officer in-charge. "The event is open to all of McConnell and their families." A few events that will be held are a cardboard boat regatta, cup stacking competition, tug-a-war, fire department hose down and the main event will be the wing car show. Food will also be provided by multiple sponsors throughout the local community. "We received tremendous help this year from sponsors," said Kristie Kader, 22nd FSS community center director. "We have a scavenger hunt that will reward the winner with prizes." The 22nd Security Forces K-9 unit will also be hosting a demonstration during this year's beach party. Teams are encouraged to come with their boat already built and ready to compete. This year's main focus is on team building. "We would like as much participation as we can get," said Stine. "In a time like this where funding is limited it's good that we still have opportunities like this that brings the Air Force family closer together."
