McConnell to participate in America’s PrepareAthon Published April 7, 2015 By Staff Reports 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Team McConnell will join numerous federal, state, local, tribal and territorial governments, private sector and non-governmental organizations to participate in the on-going America's PrepareAthon. The goal of the biannual campaign is to build a more resilient nation by increasing individual understanding of disasters, educating the populace on what to do during a disaster and being prepared to take action if disaster strikes. "Each of us has an important role to play in bolstering our preparedness for hazards of all types--from hurricanes to wildfires--to strengthen our collective security and resilience," said Robert O. Work, Deputy Secretary of Defense in a March 20 memorandum. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has developed a website, www.ready.gov/prepare, to help Americans prepare for six types of natural disasters to include tornadoes, winter storms, earthquakes, floods, wild fires and hurricanes.
