New commander scheduled to arrive at McConnell Published Jan. 15, 2015 By 1st Lt Jessica Brown 22nd Air Refueling Wing McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. - -- Col. Albert G. Miller, formerly commander of the 515th Air Mobility Operations Wing, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, will take command of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at a change of command ceremony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, in Hangar 1107 with Lt. Gen. Carlton Everhart, 18th Air Force commander, as the presiding officer. The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition in the military wherein the outgoing commander symbolically relinquishes authority over the unit by the passing of the guidon to the incoming commander. Col. Joel D. Jackson, current 22nd ARW commander, will relinquish command of the 22nd ARW to Colonel Miller before traveling to Travis AFB, where he will serve as the 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. Under Colonel Jackson's leadership the past two years, McConnell AFB thrived as the world's largest KC-135 base, flying 24/7, 365 days a year, providing aerial refueling to United States and coalition forces worldwide in support of Overseas Contingency Operations and as part of the Joint Task Force for Operation Odyssey Dawn. McConnell earned several prestigious awards such as Air Mobility Command's nominee for the Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award, which recognized outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations who have done the best with their resources to support the mission. Furthermore, under Colonel Jackson's leadership, McConnell AFB underwent $266.8M worth of construction in preparation for receiving the Air Force's new KC-46A Pegasus.
