The Air Force has recently implemented changes to the BE WELL program in order to benefit the fitness and health of Airmen.

The changes, which took effect July 1, downsized BE WELL sessions from three-hour-long sessions filled with generic information to half-hour, one-on-one meetings with personalized topics.

"For the purposes of truly helping someone," said Lou Stadler, 22nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron Health and Wellness Center director, "we feel the best option is the one-on-one intervention. That's why the program changed."

BE WELL is now available in half-hour time slots on Tuesdays at the HAWC with a stronger focus on areas patients are struggling with.

If an Airman does not need a nutritional intervention, a specialized appointment for muscular and strength counseling can be made on either the first or third Tuesday of the month. Follow up appointments may be scheduled if the patient needs additional guidance.

"It's much more time-friendly now because no one is making you sit through three hours of information that may not pertain to you," said Maribeth Havran, 22nd MDG health promotion dietitian. "You are only receiving help with the section that you need."

The new BE WELL program also offers a comprehensive online class and a telephonic health coaching through Military One Source.

The program will remain open to all Airmen and their families and will continue to be mandatory for those with unsatisfactory fitness scores.

Airmen with unsatisfactory scores will collaborate with their unit fitness program manager and their commander to choose the one or more options that will best help them meet their fitness goals.
