Housing privatization calls for close eye on BAH Published Sept. 4, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Victor J. Caputo 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Corvias Military Living, the company that recently began managing base housing here, has announced how basic allowance for housing payments will be used to pay rent. Residents will receive the BAH they are entitled and after the correct paperwork is complete, the full rent will be automatically deducted, unlike the old system where residents forfeited their BAH entirely. "The automatic payment process is designed to be as convenient and straightforward as possible," said John Pearsall, Corvias Military Living program manager. Each payment will be made in arrears on the first day of the following month. For instance, the September BAH allotment will be withdrawn on October 1 for the prior month's rent. The BAH allotment will be stopped once a family moves out. While BAH allotments are designed to occur automatically, it is each Airman's responsibility to regularly review leave and earnings statements for accuracy. Service members should contact the Corvias Community Office if BAH does not appear on their LES or if the correct allotment is not withdrawn. "As soon as you know of an error or you know of a change in your [BAH] status," said Master Sgt. Freda Smith, 22nd Comptroller Squadron financial services office flight chief, "you need to notify the finance and housing offices as soon as possible." For dual military families, both spouses will receive the designated BAH allotments and rent payment will be paid by the senior-ranking individual, allowing the junior-ranking member to retain BAH. In addition to paying for rent, BAH collected under privatization helps to fund the construction and renovation of homes and community amenities, 24-hour maintenance services, lawn care and ongoing capital repairs. The current Corvias Military Living contract will maintain McConnell AFB housing for 50 years. For more information about the company or BAH payments, please visit www.corviasmilitaryliving.com.
