The 22nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron softball team brought home the 2013 base intramural softball championship here on Aug. 21.

Playing against the 22nd Maintenance Squadron team, the AMXS won after seven innings with a final score of 10-4.

The 22nd MXS won the semi-finals game against the 22nd Security Forces Squadron just an hour before competing against the 22nd AMXS team for the title.

Despite a six point lead, Joel Craig, 22nd AMXS unit programs coordinator and team pitcher, understood the game could still go either way until the last inning.

"When you're playing in a championship game like this," he said, "there is a reason the other team made it there. It's because they're good and they can put 20 runs on the board if you let them."

The 22nd MXS hit three pop-ups in a row, ending the game and deeming the 22nd AMXS as McConnell's intramural softball champions of 2013.

Both teams rushed to the pitcher's mound to congratulate each other.

"I definitely think our teamwork, sense of comaraderie and our spirit was key in our success," said Staff Sgt. William Smith, 22nd AMXS communication navigation mission systems journeyman and team coach.
