The 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron air traffic control liaisons work with host nation controllers to support the flying mission. Their job is to ensure the safe and expeditious flow of air traffic operations within their area of control. At any given time, they are responsible for millions of dollars' worth of air assets as well as hundreds of lives. Some of the tools they use to accomplish the mission are; two-way radio communications systems, radar systems with associated computer equipment, landline communications systems and light-guns. Controllers are not only able to work with military aircraft; they are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration to perform air traffic duties aiding military and civilian aircraft alike.
