McConnell will hold a ceremony honoring the 60 years since the KC-135 Stratotanker first took to the skies.

The ceremony will take place by the KC-135 static display at 9:30 a.m., Aug. 31 and is open to all those with base access.

Those wishing to attend can park by the outdoor base pool parking lot starting at 8:45 a.m., where buses will transport people to the air park near the east gate. The ceremony will feature the first ever KC-135 to fly; special guest speaker retired Gen. Stephen R. Lorenz, former 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander; and a KC-135 flyover. After the ceremony a bus will take attendees to Hangar 1107 for a reception, which will include a static display and a chance to speak with KC-135 crewmembers. During the event, Rampart Winds from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, will provide the guests with entertainment. Those who choose not to go to the reception can stay on the bus and return to the parking lot.
