The 22nd Force Support Squadron introduced a new fitness program, “Functional Fitness” on Nov. 14, here.

“Functional Fitness” is a fitness class open to anyone with access to the base gym. The class is being taught by 22nd FSS fitness center staff members where participants with different types of high-intensity interval training exercises.

“We’ll definitely be bringing a lot more to the class,” said Senior Airman Tyler Sedivy, 22nd FSS fitness journeyman. “It’s only in the initial phase right now, so we’ll be adding more workouts and equipment as the program goes along.

The exercises derived from CrossFit which keeps the person working out at a high heart rate while doing more body weight exercises. It also tests the flexibility of the participant to improve mobility.

“The difference between this fitness class and any other is that the focus will mainly be on how to properly perform the workouts,” Sedivy added. “That difference alone is set to improve the fitness scores for the Airmen on base and improve the overall fitness of its participants.”

Classes are held every Monday at 5 p.m. and the workout is set to last one hour. For more information contact SrA Sedivy at (316) 759-4009.
