Outdoor Rec to hold open house

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  With summer just around the corner, the Outdoor Recreation Department will hold an open house to showcase the variety of equipment and services available to Team McConnell May 9, from 11 am. to 2 p.m.

“It is an opportunity for individuals to be more aware of the services and items we have at their disposal,” said Tiffany Dalzell, 22nd Force Suppport Squadron Outdoor Recreation assistant director. “This year's open house will offer a free lunch, multiple giveaways, informational tables, sponsor demonstrations, inflatables and a military working dog demonstration.”

The Air Force Outdoor Recreation Program provides oversight and guidance to Air Force installations around the globe to encourage sound morale, welfare and recreational programs for active duty and other eligible personnel, according to the Air Force Outdoor Recreation website.

Inventory includes recreational equipment such as:
• canoes
• travel trailers
• pontoon and radio-controlled boats
• all-terrain-vehicles
• bounce houses
• outdoor movie screen with sound system
• and lawn care equipment

“Outdoor Recreation is more than just equipment rental,” said Dalzell. “We also have programming and on site services, such as paintball and archery that our base members may not be aware of.”

Outdoor Recreation is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Equipment is available for daily, weekend or weekly rental.

In addition to rental equipment, Outdoor Recreation also hosts events and tours.

Another event option for customers is the "outdoor recreation on demand," program. McConnell clients are able to create a program to be planned and facilitated entirely by the department. Some required steps include meeting the minimum required number of participants and collecting money.

The products and trip planning services are not only available to Team McConnell and their families, but also to veterans, retirees and military identification card holders.
