MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan.--The tax center is comprised of 14 volunteers from, active-duty service members, retirees and dependents who all serve to make sure anyone who has access to base may get their taxes done for free, in a timely manner.

These volunteers not only go through a week long class that provides knowledge on all types of special military returns including deployments, filing in different states as well as working second jobs, but they also offer time and energy to those sacrificing or who have sacrificed for our country.

“I don’t want to see people pay to have their taxes done, when we can help them,” said Mary Borst, volunteer tax accountant. “We should help everyone, that’s what volunteers are here for.”

Many of these volunteers help out at more than just the tax center. Volunteers such as Suzanne Appleby, volunteer tax accountant, also spends her free time at the pharmacy.

“Volunteering for me is a way to give back to people who served like my husband,” said Appleby.

It’s volunteers like these that make the tax center possible. If you are still looking to file your taxes, call (316)-759-2488 to make an appointment. The tax center is located in building 750 and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to anyone with access to a military instillation.
