MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – For most people, the Holidays are a happy time — from being around the ones you love, to enjoying a home cooked Holiday meal. Unfortunately, not everyone gets that time with their loved ones.

Members of the Airman and Family Readiness Center on McConnell Air Force Base have teamed up with the local community for the past couple of months to put together care packages for members of Team McConnell that are currently deployed.

“These care packages let members that are deployed, fighting for our country, know that they are missed and gives them a little piece of home during the holiday season,” said Master Sgt. Sean Blanton, 22nd Force Support Squadron family readiness senior noncommissioned officer.

Several organizations throughout the local community showed generosity toward McConnell by donating 180 pre-made packages and items for deployed troops.

“We appreciate all that the military does for us and the sacrifices that they make,” said Katy Timken, National Catastrophe Restoration, Inc. marketing manager. “We know being away from family on Christmas is hard so we wanted to send something small to remind them that [the community] thinking of them.”

These packages contain anything from delicious snacks to Christmas decorations.

“It’s the holiday season and there is nothing that reminds you of home more than finding your favorite snacks in a care package during their time away,” said Blanton.

If your friends or loved ones are deployed, you can send them one of these free care packages. Please contact the Airman and Family Readiness Center at (316) 759-6020 and fill out a form with their address.
