Updates for housing privatization at McConnell

Military members and their families residing in McConnell Air Force Base housing will need to take several legal steps before base housing becomes privatized.

Corvias Military Living, a property management company, is anticipated to take over responsibility as the base housing management group in August.

"Residents living on base will be required to set up a basic allowance for housing, sign a new lease and set up an allotment to pay that lease," said Lt. Col. John D. Smith, 22nd Air Refueling Wing staff judge advocate.

Payments for rent will be deducted directly from the renter's BAH and can be monitored on their Leave and Earnings Statement after the allotment is activated.

Military members must be present or will need a power of attorney representing their financial needs to begin a new contract when Corvias Military Living becomes their new landlord.

"It is important for all deploying members to stop by the legal office to obtain a special POA that appoints an attorney-in-fact," said Smith, "which is usually a spouse or close family member."

Members awaiting their deployment are recommended to set up an appointment with the base legal office to ensure all necessary paperwork completed before they deploy.

To set up a legal appointment, call (316) 759-3590.

Corvias Military Living Prepares for Smooth Transition
Privacy Act Forms are the first item of business

Historic changes are coming soon to McConnell Air Force Base as Corvias Military Living will assume on-base housing responsibilities September 1. To ensure a smooth transition, all on-base housing families need to sign a Privacy Act Form by end of business on July 15, 2013.

Privacy Act Forms are now available at the Housing Management Office (HMO) for all residents who desire to remain on base in privatized housing. The form must be signed and returned to the HMO located at 2090 Arnold Blvd. no later than end of business on July 15.

"It's a simple form that allows the Air Force release its housing files to Corvias, and allows us to be ready to serve families on day one," said John Pearsall, program manager for Corvias Military Living at McConnell.

Once residents submit the Privacy Act Forms, the HMO will provide Corvias with housing information such as outstanding service orders and other details pertaining to every home on base.

By providing Corvias the housing files, the HMO can help ensure each resident's monthly Basic Allowance for Housing allotment automatically occurs when Corvias begins operations on September 1. Service Members will experience the convenience of an automated payment system rather than the hassle of hand delivering a rent payment each month.

"We have a unique opportunity to identify inaccurate information in an individual's housing file before we transition," said Pearsall. "We want to make sure every resident's allotment pulls automatically and prevent any potential inconveniences and delinquent balances."

If an issue, such as a misspelled named or incorrect social security number is found in a Service Member's housing file, a Corvias representative will contact the resident immediately to correct the discrepancy. For any questions or concerns, please contact the HMO at 316-759-3910 or stop by the office.

"We are excited to move this process forward, and we look forward to building a relationship with the families living at McConnell," said Pearsall.
