McConnell's medics achieved the best score Air Force wide, with 98 out of 100, during a Health Services Inspection Nov. 14-18, 2011.

The score the 22nd Medical Group achieved also determined their rating -- "Outstanding."

The inspection team included nine-members from the Air Force Inspection Agency Medical Directorate that conducted an assessment of the 22nd MDG's capabilities. Additionally, a three-member team from the Accreditation Association for the Ambulatory Health Care reviewed patient care and safety programs.

"Months of preparation have paid off medics, you are the best!" exclaimed Col. Charles Carlton, 22nd MDG commander, to the group during the inspection out-brief. "I couldn't be prouder to lead such a great group of enthusiastic and dedicated Airmen."

The inspectors analyzed more than 100 elements under three categories: medical operations, in-garrison medical operations and leadership, said Maj. Catherine Montgomery, 22nd MDG Education and Training flight commander.

These elements included medical readiness and training, operational medicine, occupational health, mental health, dentistry, clinical services, population health, business management, patient education and the 22nd MDG's relationship to the community.

Once inspections where completed, a final out-brief was given to medics. The HSI team awarded Montgomery one of two coins, with the other going to the medical group as a whole. Also, outstanding performers named by the HSI where: Tech. Sgt. Mary Nelson, Tech. Sgt. Sonia Harrison and Staff Sgt. Valeria Feist.

The AAAHC recognized Capt. Daniel Rosera, 1st Lt. Geoffrey Obia, Machele Willis and Diana Diaz for their outstanding performance.

Having achieved the highest score Air Force wide is not good enough, next time the 22nd MDG is aiming for a 100, said Carlton.
