McConnell once again dusted off its Combined Federal Campaign goal sign when it recently kicked-off its 2010 campaign.

The annual campaign will run through Dec. 10. McConnell's CFC representatives are hoping to exceed the base's goal of $110,000 dollars.

"I hope that this year's campaign extends the awareness that there are agencies out there to help the community, and that McConnell plays a large role in giving to these the organizations," said Capt. Clarence Lovejoy, 349th Air Refueling Squadron chief of standards and evaluations, and the 22nd Air Refueling Wing's CFC point of contact.

More than 2,000 non-profit organizations are listed in this year's CFC brochure. More than 80 benefit the local area. In past years, McConnell has been South Central Kansas area's largest contributor. Base donors have supplemented one fourth of CFC contributions.

In addition to raising $110,000 Captain Lovejoy has made a challenge for the squadron POCs.

"We also want to ensure that all the squadron POCs make 100 percent contact with members about the program," said Captain Lovejoy.

CFC is different from other national fundraising campaigns because it's the only government-approved program authorizing the solicitation of funds from federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of charitable organizations.

CFC began in the early 1960s, as an effort to coordinate the fundraising efforts of various charitable organizations and people who can make charitable contributions through payable deductions, said Captain Lovejoy.

Since its inception, CFC has been coordinating fundraising efforts for eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world and offers Team McConnell members an opportunity to provide a better quality of life for people in need.

Whether participants' goals are to honor military veterans, support medical research, facilitate community improvement projects, assist educational institutions, and more, the brochure has something for everyone. Supporters can make donations through military payroll deductions, by cash or check.

"If our teammates are able to donate, whether a little or a lot, they make an incredible difference," said Col. Jamie Crowhurst, 22nd Air Refueling Wing commander. "It will take a team effort to reach our goal of $110,000 but those who contribute have the chance to improve someone's life and ensure that McConnell continues to make a difference in the local community."

People who wish to donate should contact their group or squadron CFC representatives, who can provide campaign booklets and pledge cards.
