Commander offers gratitude about NORE

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. --  Team McConnell (Airpower!!!),

Wow what great effort I've seen on our Nuclear Operational Readiness Exercise this week. Several of you got to practice being augmentees in the cargo yard and you had a pretty exciting Thursday night/Friday morning. Many more or you practiced deploying to a forward location and actually got to fly away and then land back here to simulate arriving at your operating location. That deployment process took a concerted effort across the wing and I really appreciate everyone coming together to make it happen. Today we've got a lull in the action but tomorrow things will ramp back up and I know you'll continue to work as a team to provide US Strategic Command superior warfighter support.

When we wrap up our exercise next week, we'll have several fun activities (highlighted below) heading into a long Independence Day weekend. The most notable is a Promotion Ceremony on the 30th that Col Langford will lead. Make sure you come out to see your teammates get their new stripes tacked on. To our "tackees", congrats on your promotion! To the supervisors of our "tackees", remember they've been promoted because of their potential for more responsibility...give it to them!

Single Parents Network Luncheon: Tues, Jun 29 at 1130 in Fellowship Hall at the Base Chapel, come to the first Single Parents Network (SNP) luncheon. SPN encourages single parents to build their network and gain tools to better meet the mission. Luncheons are free to participants, open to all McConnell AFB single parents (Active Duty, Guard, Reserves, Civilian, Contractors and Dependants) and includes a short presentation by a helping agency in the community. Whether you are a full or part-time single parent or are temporarily a single parent due to deployment, this group is for you. Promotion Ceremony & Party: Wed, Jun 30 at 3pm in the Dole Center, come support our new promotes. Then congratulate your teammates while celebrating the end of another successful month at the Storm Cellar from 4-5pm.

"Sergeant's Time": Thur, Jul 1 your Group leadership will set aside approximately two hours for front line supervisors to interact with their subordinates without everyday distractions. Small groups will meet to discuss Safety topics and build esprit-de-corps in an effort to kick off a safe 4th of July weekend. Topics are available under "Sergeant's Time" on the Wing Safety SharePoint site.

Beach Party: Thur, Jul 1 from 4-8pm at the outdoor pool & pavilion. Be part of the Sand Art Contest, enjoy GREAT games, entertainment and FREE food. Then from 9-11pm, go to the After Party at the Storm Cellar patio (must be 18 to party, 21 to drink). Enjoy a movie on the big screen and Free Papa John's Pizza and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Derby Independence Day Parade: Sat, Jul 3, 9:30am at 715 E. Madison Ave in Derby, celebrate Independence Day by marching in the parade. UOD will be ABUs or flight suits. Families, wagon, strollers, etc. are welcome. Parade begins promptly at 10am; participants must be in place by 9:30am and can enjoy free food immediately following the parade in High Park. Baseball Game & Fireworks: Sun, Jul 4 ceremony starts at 6:05pm at the Dumont Stadium in Wichita, and the baseball game begins at 6:30pm. I will throw out the first pitch and introduce some of our" Then, after the game, at 9:45pm there will be fireworks! Cost is only $5.

ALS Graduation: Thur, Jul 8 at 6pm in the Dole Center Ballroom. Class 10-E welcomes special guest speaker, 931 ARG Commander, Colonel Edsel Frye.
