McConnell is scheduled to host Comedian Bernie McGrenahan's "Happy Hour" tour to educate and entertain Airmen on the risks of alcohol Aug. 2, 2010, at the Robert J. Dole Community Center.

Mr. McGrenahan was a former high-risk drinker whose life spiraled out of control but climbed back to the top and now speaks about his rise to students and servicemembers world wide.

He made an appearance at McConnell last year and is returning for another round with Team McConnell. McConnell's Airman and Family Readiness Center's Integrated Delivery System is bringing Mr. McGrenahan to speak to Airmen in two sessions, at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m.

"He serves a dual purpose to Team McConnell," said Lt. Col. Stan Lawrie, 22nd Air Refueling Wing chief of safety. "His comedy routine is fresh and well suited to a younger, hip, military audience. More importantly, he has made some choices in his life and has been affected by the choices of others that we all can learn from."

This event is geared towards Airmen and their families. Parents that would like to attend with their 16 year or older dependents are welcome. However, Airmen who are 25 and younger are required to attend one of the two sessions.

"An audience aimed at 25 and under, matches the demographics for those most at risk to off-duty mishaps and vehicle related fatalities," said Colonel Lawrie. "We are trying to ensure those that have not been exposed to as many life situations are given the benefit of soaking up the wisdom of others."

Lynn Emond, 22nd Air Refueling Wing sexual assault program manager, was in the audience last year and recalled how Mr. McGrenahan's Happy Hour affected her.

"I think it's such a powerful message, delivered in a humorous way and it makes you think and examine to get a better understanding of yourself," she said.

The Happy Hour show will be at McConnell 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Aug. 2 at the Dole Center and Airmen under the age of 25 are required to go. For more information on the Happy Hour tour contact the 22nd ARW safety office at 759-4321.
